Partner 10: Tannak AB, (TANNAK), Sweden

Tannak AB is a SME that was started in 2006 in Jokkmokk, Sweden, a northern outpost of the union. Both owners of Tannak ABs, Ms Susanne Spik and Ms Karin Kuljok, were born and raised in reindeer herding families and still  are active reindeer herders.

The reindeer roam and are moved from one grazing area to another within each husbandry district. To be able to combine reindeer herding with raising families, the need for ICT solutions was obvious to Ms Spik and Ms Kuoljok. Living in a natural reserve (Sirges Summer Village) part of the year made Ms Spik and Ms Kuoljok realize the need for ICT that could provide e-mail, cached web access, reindeer herd tracking telemetry and basic file and data transfer services. They were therefore among the initiators of the Sámi Network Connectivity (SNC) project and worked actively with the tests that the SNC project carried out in 2006. With this experience they realized the need for ICT and are now involved in development of the cattle and animal tracking systems using DTN and other ICT solutions. Tannak AB was founded to develop the cattle and animal tracking systems.

TANNAK´s business idea is to commercialize technical systems, products, prototypes and consultancy services for identification and tracking of cattle and animals. The aim is to become a leading independent provider of these  systems. TANNAK main tasks in N4C will be participating in development of software for animal and cattle tracking, leading test and demonstration of cattle and animal tracking, and disseminating the results from N4C to interest organizations and particularly to the Sápmi community.

In N4C Tannak will work mainly with technical issues, tests and dissemination in:

·         WP7 System integration

·         WP8 Tests and validation in two remote test beds

·         WP9 Dissemination
