Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM) is the oldest and largest of the Spanish Technical Universities. UPM currently has more than 3,000 faculty members, around 38,000 undergraduate students, and around 6,000 postgraduate students. UPM’s Schools cover most Engineering disciplines. Of a total annual budget of around 350 M euro, UPM receives annually over 100 M euro support from external sources for research activities. The UPM has participated in around 200 European R&D projects over the past four years, including 19 Networks of Excellence, and is member of 10 European Technology Platforms.
In N4C UPM will be mostly involved in the definition and design of the air interfaces suitable for the established requirements for the envisioned scenarios. This part covers from point to point broadband communications (Wi-Fi, WiMAX, Flash-OFDM…) to wireless sensor network links via power saving technologies (Zigbee…). UPMs contribution includes theoretical results, evaluation of candidate technologies and simulation to select the most suitable. UPM merge experience in communications ranging from coverage analysis to physical and MAC layers designs and also networking / routing in wireless sensor networks.
